News 2015/03-20 ・ 2140

World Water day is a moment to celebrate importance of water for human rights and dignity. For poverty eradication and sustainable development for cooperation and peace. Water must no longer be taken for granted. We need to change dramatically how it is used, managed and shared. This is specially important today states shaping new global sustainable development agenda.

Water must stand at the heart of the post 2015 agenda.

This is the message we send today. Starting with the official WWDay celebration in New Delhi, India and through events across the world. This coincides with the launch of the WW Development Report on behalf UN Water comprising over 30 UN agencies and partners. Under the UN WW Assessment programme hosted by UNESCO.

The report is clear. 750 Million people still do not have access to an improved source of drinking water. And the demand for water by manufacturing is expected to increase by 400% by 2050 only in the developing countries. We need a new global vision today of the importance of water for the welfare of humanity.

The great Mahatma Gandhi once said “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems." We must breach this gap and together I am convinced we can.
